His name was Anas, surname was Abu Hamza and the title was 'Khadim-e-Rasool' . His mother's name is Umm-e-Saleem. He belonged to the tribe Banu Nujaar which was an honorable tribe of Ansar Madina.
Hazrat Anas bin Malik was born in Madina ten years before the migration of the Holy Prophet . Most of the people of his tribe had attained the knowledge of Tauheed and Risalat before the Prophet came to Madina. The mother of Hazrat Anas had also embraced Islam before the second Bait-e-Uqba. His father had not entered into Islam and he had left Madina. His mother married Hazrat Abu Talha. Hazrat Abu Talha went to Makkah and took the oath of allegiance in the Second Bait-e-Uqba of Hazrat Muhammad . In this way, the entire family of Hazrat Anas was enlightened with the light of faith.
After the Holy Prophet wasdecided to stay in Madina, Hazrat Umm-e-Saleem came to the Holy Prophet and requested to accept Hazrat Anas in his service. He accepted Hazrat Anas and he became famous as ‘Khadim- e-Rasool'.
He performed his duty in a very good manner till the demise of the Holy Prophet . He was in the service of the Holy Prophet for almost ten years and he was always proud of this honor. He used to attend the Holy Prophet before Fajr prayer and returned to his home in the afternoon. Then he used to come back again to the Holy Prophet at Zuhr and used to stay with him till Asr prayer. He used to stay with the Holy Prophet whether he was at home or travelling. The Holy Prophet used to call him "Anees" out of love.
Hazrat Anas says:
''I served the Prophet of Allah for ten years .He says that the Holy Prophet never got angry about anything or never asked me about any task as to why it was left undone.''
Hazrat Anas Bin Malik was blessed with great number of children and it was the effect of the dua given to him by the Holy Prophet . Once the Holy Prophet Jesale) visited Hazrat Anas bin Malik). Hazrat Umm-e-Saleem requested him to pray for Hazrat Anas.
The Holy Prophet prayed for him for a long time and at the end he said:
" اَللّهُمَّ أكْثِرُ ما لَهُ وَوَلَدَهُ وَبارِك لَهُ فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَهُ»
Translation:
''O Allah! Make an increase in his wealth, and progeny, and confer blessings upon him in everything Thou hast bestowed upon him.'' (Sahih Muslim: 2480)
Hazrat Anas narrated that the first two out of these three prayers were fulfilled while he was waiting for the third one to be fulfilled. He was so much wealthy that no man of Ansar was of his match in wealth and the number of children and grandchildren totalled to more than hundred.
Hazrat Anas loved his children a lot. He mostly remained at his home and educated his sons by himself. His sons had a special respect among the Tabe'en which was the effect of the teachings of Hazrat Anas. Besides education and learning, Hazrat Anas was a skilled archer. He used to teach archery to his sons too.
Hazrat Anas was very generous by nature. He was patient and steadfast. He used to talk very simply and truthfully, repeating each phrase three times. When visiting someone's house, he used to seek permission three times and eat very simple food. He had a special importance for the Holy Prophet due to which the other companions of the Holy Prophet looked upon him with love and respect.
Hazrat Anas holds a great position in narrating Hadiths. Just like Hadiths, he was is also perfect in his outstanding knowledge of jurisprudence. Love for the Prophet following the Sunnah, spreading kindness and speaking the truth were the obvious character traits of Hazrat Anas bin Malik. He loved the Holy Prophet so much that he used to see the Holy Prophet first after getting up.This young son of Umm-e-Saleem used to get up at dawn and headed towards Masjid-e-Nabwi to provide the accessories for ablution to the Holy Prophet .He loved the Prophet with heart and soul. He is among one of those esteemed Companions of the Holy Prophet to whom he had asked to pen down the Hadiths and he preserved them in writing.
Hazrat Anas died in ninety-three (93) Hijri. He was sick for a few months before his death. He was surrounded by a crowd of disciples and devotees and people from far and near came to visit him. He was from the last Companions of the Prophet who died in Basra.
